Our Story

When L.A. began to industrialize around 1870, three quarters of its population was employed in some facet of the wine industry. And yet this part of the city’s history, and the people who lived it, are often left out of the story we tell of Los Angeles. Their stories, and the stories of those who preceded them, are the focus of Plant the Vine. By planting three historic, interrelated grapes in a single garden, Plant the Vine invites visitors to engage in an act of the imagination, to interpret what life was like before, during and after this crucial, and largely forgotten, part of L.A.’s history.
